NXP and NVIDIA develop edge computing platform for humanoid robots

NXP Semiconductors and nvidia Working together on an edge computing platform for humanoid robots. NXP solutions enable secure, reliable real-time data processing and advanced networking for sensor fusion, machine vision and precise motor control.

edge computing means that the computing power is directly in the robot (on the edge of the edge to the real world). So he can react without delay.

In this cooperation, the first solutions were developed that Nvidia Holoscan Sensor Bridge Combine with NXP’s highly integrated SoCs. This reduces the number of devices, which reduces space requirements, power consumption and costs. At the same time, the software complexity for the sensor technology (sense of touch) and actuators (movement) is reduced – also in humanoids, i.e. human-like designs.

A soc (System-On-A-Chip) is basically a complete computer on a single tiny chip that combines processor, graphics, memory, and wireless connections, rather than distributing these components on a large board.

physical AI is considered the next major innovation field. It includes systems that can accurately perceive, interpret and interact with your environment in a secure manner. Humanoid robots are one of the most complex types: they require extremely low-latency (fast response time) data transmission throughout the robot body in order to ensure synchronized movements and tight sensor fusion.

NXP’s new robotics solutions directly address these challenges through powerful edge intelligence. By integrating the HoloScan Sensor Bridge into NXP’s software ecosystem, developers can implement real-time processing more easily. A direct communication path between the limbs and the ‘robot brain’ significantly reduces latency – a critical prerequisite for decisions in the physical world.
